Monday, November 5, 2018, 12PM – 1PM PT: The Learning Science of Extended Reality (XR) Technologies and How They Will Accelerate Healthcare Training (Free for ATD members)
Extended reality (XR) technologies come in two major forms: virtual reality (VR), in which the learner is immersed in a virtual environment, and augmented reality (AR), in which the learner is in a combined real and virtual environment. Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 11AM – 12PM PT: Evolving Performance Management and Deeper Employee Engagement (Free for ATD members)
The landscape of performance management has been upended, with companies as established as General Electric and Accenture fundamentally rethinking how they evaluate employees. HR leaders not only need to make substantive changes, but they need to do so in a way that doesn’t alienate employees or managers. With this degree of change, it’s easy for employee engagement to falter and for the process to feel contrived and imposed.
Poll Everywhere’s COO Sam Cauthen will provide an overview of the changes companies are making in performance management, informed by her own work spanning more than a decade leading people operations and consulting on organizational design. She’ll provide lessons learned in driving change through interactive communication and give examples of employee communications practices designed to foster engagement—and with it, performance.
In this webcast, you’ll gain:
An overview of recent changes in the performance management landscape and the logic and research behind those changes.
Examples of talent management practices at various companies.
Lessons learned in driving change through interactive communication designed to foster engagement.
Wednesday, November 7, 2018, 12PM – 1PM PT: Teach Learners Critical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving Using Web-Tools
eLearning and most technology-assisted learning are data dumps or glorified PowerPoint presentations. Even those we call gamification and virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) solutions try to force learners to learn content—but not how to learn or think critically and creatively. The consequence of the lack of thinking in learning is that many workers are unable to deal with problems at work that require dealing with exceptions, deviations, uncertainties and rapid change of knowledge and skills. Most training stops in learning content. What is needed is for learners to “think critically.”
In the session, you’ll learn:
Conditions where critical thinking skill is a must.
Connecting “rote learning” methods to critical thinking and creativity.
Integrating tools to produce a more creative learning experience.
Preview 10 Critical Thinking Methods and Processes.
Obtain the 10-Step Evaluation on When to Use Critical Thinking in learning technologies.
Join the session and ten days before the webinar you’ll experience a “Technology Lab” on critical thinking.
Thursday, November 8, 2018, 10AM – 11AM PT: The Key to a Great Culture: Effective Communication Throughout the Employee Lifecycle
HR Professionals strive to develop a great employee culture with a highly engaged, productive, innovative and collaborative workforce. The driver to developing that culture is compelling and effective two-way communication, starting before Day 1 and continuing throughout the employee lifecycle.
However, many organizations miss important opportunities to connect with employees. Join Brandon Hall Principal Analyst Daria Friedman, who’ll share key insights from the just-completed Strategic Onboarding survey and other recent research. The survey showed that few organizations introduce new hires to the organizational culture between the time the offer letter is signed and the first day of work. Then, during the actual onboarding period only 50% of organizations speak to their new hires about growth opportunities. Our research shows this trend continuing throughout the lifecycle: 62% of organizations said managers are only somewhat effective at discussing growth opportunities.
Join Daria and Colleen Blake, VP of Solutions at GuideSpark, as they discuss the research results and how to implement best practices for driving organizational culture.
You’ll gain insights on:
Missed connection opportunities throughout the employee lifecycle based on recent Brandon Hall Group research.
How successful organizations leverage an ongoing communications campaign approach that enriches the employment culture and supports employee engagement.
Leading practices and case studies for communicating throughout the talent lifecycle.

We all know how important clear goals are to management. We sometimes forget they’re not enough. If you want an employee base that brings their best, they need more than goals—they need access to resources, and they need to be able to perceive their own progress along the way.
In this webinar, award-winning author Ed Muzio (Iterate: Run a Fast, Flexible, Focused Management Team) will explain how clear goals, control of resources, and self-managed feedback combine to create what’s known as Front Line Self-Sufficiency. When you get it right, your front line will be able to tell management how things are going, instead of the other way around—and your company will make better decisions because they’ll have better information. A must for front-line managers and middle managers alike, understanding the concept of Front Line Self-Sufficiency is the first step in getting managers out of the handholding business, and into the business of directing the organization.

Tuesday, November 20, 2018, 11AM – 12PM PT: Efficient and Cost-Effective New Manager Onboarding (Free for ATD members)
Like many companies, BAE Systems was challenged with consistency in how it assimilated new people managers in a large, geographically decentralized environment, which created gaps around providing necessary training on compliance issues and communicating the company's expectations of its leaders. In some situations, these managers were new to the company, and in others they were new to management. To address this, BAE leveraged its LMS’s dynamic audience feature to automatically identify new people managers across all business units and geographies. Then, it aligned the LMS and one of the content providers to deliver just-in-time, relevant learning opportunities to these managers through custom notifications with links to BAE Systems programs and content offerings. This approach has expanded their reach to managers even in the remotest locations accessing their world-class leadership readiness resources. It brought efficiency through automation with significant time and cost savings around new manager training, decreased new manager time to performance, and increased engagement levels for new managers and their teams.
During this webcast, you’ll learn:
The power of positioning learning as a benefit.
How to onboard new people managers with consistency, regardless of their location.
How to identify the metrics that matter when measuring the success of your onboarding programs.

Thursday, November 29, 2018, 12PM – 1PM PT: More Than a Suggestion Engine: How AI Produces Automated, Personalized Learning – at Scale
By now, it’s more than likely that you know that each time you use your phone, computer or tablet, whatever app you’re using is collecting data about you and how you use that application. This is exactly how platforms such as Netflix serve up suggested content based on your past viewing activities.
Watched “The Office” series in its entirety five times? It’s likely Netflix will tell you to watch the UK version as well. We’re well into the age of personalized content, and it’s all powered by a continual stream of data flowing from your phone, tablet, Playstation 4 or desktop into the hands of companies around the world that have mastered the art of using data to provide personalized content, advertising and product recommendations.
Artificial Intelligence is the backbone of these suggestion engines, and in the context of e-learning, it would be easy to pigeonhole a learning platform’s AI functionalities as just that: a suggestion engine.
Fortunately, AI-powered learning is much more than that, and in the context of L&D, helps administrators make easy use of the learning platforms to develop more immersive and personalized learning experiences, turning L&D to your company’s competitive advantage.
Insights will include:
How to home in on personalized learning with AI-powered content-curation tools.
Why AI is crucial to serving up relevant content based individual learner needs and interests.
How to make sense of the engagement, productivity and performance benefits AI-powered personalized learning delivers.
Friday, November 30, 2018, 7:30AM – 8:30AM PT: Back to Human: How Great Leaders Create Connection in the Age of Isolation (Free for ATD members)
Today’s workers are more stressed, less loyal, and technology-dependent. While digital platforms and devices have supported remote working, powered the gig economy and enhanced our collaboration, they have simultaneously made the workplace less productive and made workers feel increasingly isolated. Countless research studies conclude that employees are yearning for the in-person interactions and relationships that give us a sense of belonging and meaning in our work lives, yet we continue to become increasingly dependent on tech. In a study in the Harvard Business Review, one professor found that a single face-to-face request is 34 times more successful than an email. This is but one example of how by working human, we can also work more successfully.
You’ll learn:
Why the highest-performing and healthiest teams are the ones that are the most connected.
How technology can negatively impact work relationships—and how to radically improve them.
The importance of recognizing and supporting employees who feel isolated from the team.
How team connectivity impacts business outcomes and can increase loyalty and organizational commitment—and ways to encourage it
Prior to the event, please see the Work Connectivity Index (WCI) self-assessment.
