The love of lifelong learning

If you’re hearing the term “lifelong learning” bandied about, you’re not alone. Lifelong learning is about being open to new knowledge and ways of doing things throughout your life—not just during K-12 and post-secondary. It’s part of having a “growth mindset” versus a “fixed mindset,” having flexibility about approaches and methodologies, and realizing that both culture, technology, and the economic environment are constantly changing how we absorb information.

As Suzanne McCrorie put it in Motivation of Learning Pedagogical Model:

“Lifelong learners are motivated to learn and develop because they want to: it is a deliberate and voluntary act. Lifelong learning can enhance our understanding of the world around us, provide us with more and better opportunities and improve our quality of life.”
